Is swapping the new shopping?
Swapping allows you to get new clothes and save cash
As people tighten their purse strings, swap parties are becoming an increasingly popular way to refresh tired wardrobes without hitting the high street.
Swap or "swishing" parties work in a similar way to websites such as Freecycle and see people giving away old, unwanted items in exchange for somebody else's goods. Such events can involve swapping any items from clothes, to household objects, toys, sports goods and CDs and DVDs.
Speaking to the Mirror about the trend, swap party attendee, Deborah Beck, 35, said: "It's such a brilliant idea."
"Everyone's always broke after Christmas and there's usually a bit of a social lull, too. A swish party is a good excuse for a get-together and an easy way to swap clothes."
And swap parties are not simply good for people's financial health - they can also have positive implications for the environment as people recycle their unwanted items rather than throwing them away and creating more landfill.

According to Planet Ark, anyone thinking of throwing their own swap party should take the time to arrange all items creatively on racks and tables as this will make them much more appealing. It also suggested providing mirrors and trying-on areas.
It is also important to remember that all items should be in good condition.
