Latest trend is for beauty on a budget
Looking good does not have to mean splashing the cash
As we battle with the recession a whole new fashion and beauty trend is emerging – budget chic, with people focusing on how they can look their best without splashing too much cash.
One way style-conscious women are saving their pennies is by making the most of one asset, such as their lips, eyes or cheekbones and just buying products for this body part, a method advocated by none other than make-up guru Bobbi Brown.
Speaking to the Financial Times she said: "A dramatic colour – like a bold lip – instantly updates your appearance."
DIY beautifying is also all the rage at the moment, with Emma Thomson, head of natural beauty and aromatherapy at Neal's Yard Remedies, telling the publication that the contents of people's fridges can be used to create inexpensive but effective face masks.
She recommends a mix of egg yolks, bananas, avocados and almond oil to rejuvenate tired and dry skin.
When it comes to clothes, it seems that the credit crunch has not curbed people's enthusiasm for a fashion fix. However, Shelly Vella, fashion director of Cosmopolitan, claims women are being more discerning about what they spend their money on.
She stated that consumers are avoiding faddy items that are too cheap and disposable, and instead investing in key pieces that will stand the test of time.
She added that while being a savvy spender is important: "The one thing that makes you better in times like this is looking good."
