'Happy' website launched for students
New Zealand Uni sets up happiness website for its students
A New Zealand university has set up a website designed to teach stressed students how to be happier.
The new Computer Assisted Learning for the Mind (CALM) website launched by Auckland University has been created to give visitors a chance to learn more about positive psychology.
Students that are struggling to cope with university life will be able to download podcasts featuring advice on how they can improve their outlook, with a focus on relationships and looking for meaning in life.
Antonio Fernando of Auckland University's Department of Psychological Medicine claimed that there is "an ongoing myth" that wealth and status are key to life satisfaction, despite research suggesting otherwise.
He added: "True, long-lasting happiness is a mental state that can be cultivated and this is what this website will help our students to achieve."
The launch of the site has come after researchers at the University of California claimed that organisation and self-discipline can make people happier.
Published in the Health Psychology journal, the study stated that hard workers tend to live longer and be more content.
