Cyclists celebrate returning to British soil on their 1,700-mile Sports Relief challenge

Charity cyclists have followed former England rugby captain Lawrence Dallaglio through the Channel Tunnel to reach the UK leg of a 1,700-mile sponsored bike ride.

The Dallaglio Cycle Slam team hopes to ride to all Six Nations stadiums to raise £1 million for the BBC's Sport Relief and the Dallaglio Foundation.

Setting off from Rome's Stadio Flaminio on February 12, more than 60 cyclists have travelled to Paris and are on track to reach London, Cardiff, Dublin and Edinburgh before the England-Scotland Calcutta Cup match on March 13.

"It is fantastic to be back on British soil again," said Mr Dallaglio after arriving through the Eurotunnel at Folkestone, Kent.

"It has been a long few weeks cycling through Italy and France and it is nice to be in familiar surroundings. However, the cycle isn't complete yet, we've still got a long way to go.

"Everyone has been so supportive so far and I urge people to get online and to continue to donate to these fantastic causes.

"We head to Twickenham on Saturday to watch England against Ireland and I can't wait, it should be a fantastic match and a welcome break from the cycle."

The Dallaglio Foundation has raised more than £600,000 for Cancer Research UK.
