List of companies believed to be doing the most to undermine climate action is named

The UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen is rapidly approaching. Thousands of international business representatives will be attending. But do they really want to tackle climate change or does money remain their motivation? The Angry Mermaid thinks the latter is true.

In fact, The Angry Mermaid is so incensed, she has decided to name and shame corporate culprits in a new award.

The Angry Mermaid award, named after the iconic statue in Copenhagen, was created by five organisations - Attac Denmark, Corporate Europe Observatory, Focus on the Global South, Friends of the Earth International and Spinwatch. The award has selected a shortlist of international companies believed to be doing the most to undermine climate action.

Take action

This shortlist, providing ample material for a whole string of John Le Carre novels, names international petroleum companies, clean energy companies and "climate friendly" crop growers, who appear to be not only failing to live up to their climate supportive titles, but actively lobbying against carbon change policy. Why? Change affects their financial turnover.

You can vote for the worst offender online up until 13th December 2009. The winner of the Angry Mermaid Award will be named in Copenhagen on the 15th December.

This whole issue has been dealt with very badly, to much of a hidden agenda.
Scientists who are not on the IPCC pannel have had there coments ignored because they dont state what the IPCC and our polititions want to hear.
Polititions have done a pretty good job of losing public trust, and in doing so have succeeded in draging scientists down with them.
I feel that a way out of this situation, would be to cancel the Copen Hagan summit, and invite Scientists from around the world who are well quallified in there subjects, to send in there coments, to a central location, all the reasoning could then be studied, and what the majority agree on could be put together, and debated to reach a decision. all these coments should be made public, not hidden, it would then be an open Scientific debate, but this must be done without political Interference.

The Angry Mermaid is nothing compared to my anger regarding this scam. There was never any evidence to back it up - and the only bit 'scientists' kept referring to was made up!!! Try doing your tax-returns that way - you won't get away with it - and neither will the eco-nazi's. Your 'wonderful scientists' were scamming all along. Get over it - but don't even THINK of taxing me to pay for these lies.

How about listing the millions of dollars contributed by the "carbon trading industry" to researchers in the CRU and elsewhere?

Maybe the Angry Mermaid should calm down a bit and have a cooling plunge into the sea surrounding her rock. And maybe then, after a refreshing swim, back on the rock, she should cast an eye on the events unravelling around the University of East Anglia's now infamous Climate Research Unit. Clearly, my dear Mermaid, economical activity causes environmental damage. Maybe, however, we should concentrate on those types of damage we know of for certain and not concentrate on conservation measures which are based on, at best, unproven science and, at worst, biased, if not fraudulent, scientific papers. I hope you will enjoy your swim in the cooling sea!
