Travelling around the edge of the Atlantic along the 1m contour line, the directors of environmental education charity Atlantic Rising are hoping to raise awareness of how climate change and rising sea levels are affecting people around the world.

They also hope to show how an Atlantic community could work together to overcome these issues.

As part of the Message in a Bottle project, students from a network of schools in low lying communities around the ocean's rim have been asked to writer letters about their hopes and concerns for the future.

These letters have been put into a buoy, which was thrown into the Atlantic ocean. The progress of the specially designed buoy, which is fitted with a satellite tracker, can be seen on Atlantic Rising's website.
