Activists halt mid-way through decorating the iconic Hollywood sign, to protest against planned development on the famous hillside.

The 450ft long sign will eventually be changed to read "Save The Peak". The protest is intended to draw people's attention to the fact that developers plan to build mansions around the landmark. As a result, a group of activists are planning to raise the $12.5m needed to buy the land back and preserve the part of Cahuenga Peak around the sign.

The land was originally purchased by developers in 2002, from the estate of aircraft tycoon Howard Hughes.
