Hindus bathe at Sangam for Paush Purnima
Hindu devotees bathe at Sangam, India, as part of Paush Purnima (also known as Poush Poornima or Pushya Pournami) on 31st December. Sangam is the confluence of the Ganges and Yamuna holy rivers with the mythical river of Saraswati.
A highly auspicious day for Hindu communities, Paush Purnima is the full moon day in the traditional north Indian month of Paush (or Poush) that falls between December and January. It marks the start of Magh Mela - a festival held until mid-February.
During this period, bathers believe that the river will wash away sins and lead them to their ultimate goal - Moskha (nirvana).
