An exhibition piece entitled "In Bed" is seen ahead of the opening of the Ron Mueck exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia.

The highly-acclaimed artist is known for his intensely realistic sculptures which play with scale to produce jarring visual images.

A former model-maker and puppeteer for children's TV and films - notably Labyrinth - Mueck moved into the world of fine art in the mid-90s and immediately grabbed the attention of Charles Saatchi. He has since exhibited his giant sculptures around the world – his 5m high sculpture "Boy" was a feature in the Millennium Dome.

The display will feature 12 of Mueck's hyper-realistic sculptures from the Scottish Gallery of Modern Art, along with four new works.
