Sony unveils green mini laptop
The Eco Edition contains recycled compact disks
Sony is targeting the green pound with its latest offering, an eco-friendly mini laptop which is manufactured, in part, from recycled compact disks.
The Vaio W Series Eco Edition was unveiled by the technology giant at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this week and is part of Sony's aims to lower the environmental impact of both its products and manufacturing facilities.
Each of the personal computers boasts a chassis made from 20% recycled compact disks and comes complete with a reusable carry case made from recycled bottles.
The machines' manufacturing process accounted for 10% fewer CO2 emissions than that of the previous W Series models.
They are supplied with an electronic rather than paper user manual, resulting in a 35% reduction in printed user documents compared with previous W Series.
Regarding specifications, the Eco Edition's display uses an LED backlight which is more environmentally-friendly than traditional lamp technology and does not contain any harmful mercury.
It is powered by an energy-efficient Intel Atom processor.
