What do you think 2010 holds in the fight against climate change?

Copenhagen is over and campaigners are voicing their disappointment but vowing not to give up. What do you think the next step should be in the fight against climate change? How can we make the decision-makers sit up and listen?

I very much hope we will see a renewed effort towards copenhagen being resolved.

Also I'm quite intrigued by what Evo Morales is up to... http://www.sidewaysnews.com/environment-nature/bolivia-host-climate-summit

You cannot expect much innovation from governments. Change always starts with individuals who change their views and their way of life. When there are enough of them (tipping point) the system (governments and corporations) change automatically. So don't wait for your government to come with solutions.

I am inclining towards Francie's view in her 15th January post, that change comes from individuals not imposed from on top. But perhaps Copenhagen will prove to have been more successful than now appears?

Change can also come very quickly when individuals band together, as in political revolutions of the 20th century......

I don't think we should be 'fighting' against climate change. It's a natural part of the Earth's cycles. And what we fight against only persists. We should perhaps become more conscious of how we pollute the Earth and take steps to change these actions. We should be trying to live in harmony with our Earth, again, not living 'off' it.

I believe the climate changes naturally, whether humans are here or not, but we have obviously contributed to the current changes through pollution and abuse of the Earth's natural resources. So we have to take responsibility for that but forgive ourselves and move forward with the lessons we've learnt.

If we don't, the Earth will continue to change more dramatically in order to rid itself of the 'pests' that are damaging it. I think the Earth is a living organism in itself and like anything living it wants to survive. If we threaten its survival, where does that leave us?

I agree with you that we need to rein in how we pollute the earth but I don't agree that climate change is completely natural. i think it has been in the past but I believe what we're seeing today is largely due to people.

Either way, I'm not averse to a bit of scaremongering about climate change but it means it will actually get people to sit up and take action. Lethargy is the main struggle we face with it right now

Yes lethargy, but also an unwillingness to believe in the warnings based on scientific research and analysis. Hence, during our recent exceptionally cold UK winter, many people were moved to scepticism about global warming. This is really not surprising, but it makes me despair.

I also despair aray and while I can understand that people get confused bwtween weather cycles and climate chnage, they're actually very different things and a cold winter is irrelevant but try telling people that. the amount of smugs I've heard say on well, look at what this winter shows about climate change!!!!

Yes I have heard many similar comments. I suppose basically people react to what is tangible
