What are you taking action on?

Community Manager picture

Posted by Community Manager on Monday 4th January 2010 12:12pm

As you may have noticed, we've launched a new area of the site called take action. it's all about trying to help you to do something with the news that we put in front of you. instead of passively consuming it, why not go out and actively do something about it? it's easy really.

We've also got daily actions lined up that you can sign up for. they're simple bitesized chunks from joining a local library instead of buying books to petitioning for women's rights or kids in poverty.

We'd love to hear what you think about it, your stories about how you're taking action on a local, national or even global level and any great suggestions you may have for actions we should add to the site.

It's all here - http://www.sidewaysnews.com/take-action

Speaking as an over-sixty, unfortunately I find friends of my own generation are less convinced about recycling and also about green issues in general. However I am trying to show such people the importance of getting into the mindset which automatically factors in environmental concerns in everyday living

Yes I think you have the right idea Dickie. I introduce the topics aired on Sideways News whenever I am with friends and acquaintances. The site has so much topical, up to date information, there is always something that will catch peoples' interest

a friend of mine is organising a collective of local mothers to order kitchen staples in bulk ie wholesale. that way they all save money and trips to the supermarket, not to mention unnecessary packaging. she will get all the food delivered to her house and then portion it out - people then come and pick it up. a good way of getting to know your local community too, particularly in rural areas.

Hi Fuzz56

i think that's an excellent idea, a bit like a mini co-op for mums! I'm sure there are lots of other ways this could be used.

Foodcycle do some interesting work along these lines... http://www.sidewaysnews.com/take-action/feed-people-need-foodcycle
