Last week the Scottish government announced they were planning to allow 16- and 17-year-olds a vote in a referendum on Scottish independence.
Do you think the decision is a good one, or is it Scottish Nationalist opportunism? Should young people be allowed a say on such matters, and why or why not? At what age do you think one becomes an "adult"?

If we believe that children are the future, then yes.
Complicated question- not sure I know the answer- but judging by the 16 year old kids round where I live, it's not a good idea!
Yes, opportunism I would say, and Gordon Brown has suggested lowering the voting age in this way in the past. I had no interest in politics at this age, even though my parents and their friends were constantly discussing political topics. No chance of a teenager voting ideologically!
