i read in the guardian today that the monokini is losing favour in france and in the new fake beaches of the seine it is banned and you can be fined. it seems odd to me that sunbathing topless was a feminist issue and is now being frowned upon by modern women. surely looking for equality in the boardroom doesnt mean you cant go topless on holiday on the beach?
its just breasts and i dont see the problem. having breasts doesnt make you a sex symbol and its the media who have resexualised the female body and made us all body fascists.
if women have moved on to equal pay and jobs then why would they even be fussed about a small thing like going topless en vacances?
am i missing the point...?!

This is a difficult beast. If we didn't have the current over sexing over the female body then I wouldn't care about topless women. But with society the way it is, going topless on the beach is probably sending out the wrong signals.
I blame plastic surgeons and the likes of Jordan.
Yes, I agree that the press has run away with this, but it will not go into reverse. It often seems that breastfeeding mothers are embarrassing to people.
It drives me mad when people liken breastfeeding to voluntarily going topless on the beach! (not that you did, Hunter, but it recalls the issue to mind.)
I've no real objection if other women want to sunbathe topless, but I certainly wouldn't. Mostly because I wouldn't sunbathe and risk skin cancer!
But breastfeeding is the natural function of a woman's breasts. Most breastfeeding mums do their very utmost to minimise exposure and to avoid embarrassment to themselves and those around them. It's not the same issue.
I thought the monokini was that frightening outfit that Borat wore. If so, then it should be banned.
The breastfeeding debate is ridiculous and trotted out by people who don't have a clue. How anyone could compare someone breastfeeding with someone sunbathing topless is beyond me.
