As part of Fairtrade Fortnight, which kicked off on the 22nd of February, people are being urged to fill their shopping baskets with Fairtrade products rather than their usual purchases.

The Fairtrade Foundation is hoping that one million and one switches to Fairtrade products will be made as part of the Big Swap initiative.

At the time of writing, 264,047 swaps had been made, with people pledging to swap their daily caffeine and chocolate fixes, fruit and veg and even clothes to the Fairtrade alternatives.

According to the foundation, it is now easier than ever to switch to Fairtrade, with over 3,000 products for people to choose from.

The campaign is focusing its attention on tea in particular, and asking people to swap their morning cuppa for a Fairtrade one.

A number of Big Swap events are taking place across the nation to mark the fortnight, including a tea ladies march across London Bridge and a speed dating event which saw people swapping their skills with one another in Reading.

"Every swap will be proof that the people of the UK want producers in the developing world to get a fairer deal," the foundation stated.
