Meet Big River Man

In 2007, Slovenian man Martin Strel became the first person to swim the Amazon River - a journey than saw him defy crocodiles and piranhas to highlight pollution in the world.

The 2009 Sundance award-winning film Big River Man follows the environmental campaigner and marathon swimmer's journey up the river over 5,430km.

Strel didn’t start swimming until he was 50 years old and has since swam some of the world’s largest and most polluted rivers such as the Mississippi and the Yangtze.
