Javan rhino is poached for medicines
With just 60 left in the world the javan rhinoceros (also known as the lesser one-horned rhino) is on the brink of extinction and listed as critically endangered on the IUCN Red List.
Found in the tropical forests of Indonesia and Vietnam, the main threats to the species are poaching for Asian medicines and the destruction of forests for farming.
The WWF has been working to protect the rhinos for many years. However, as the human population explosion continues, the danger level to rhinos increases.
