Shorty Awards open for votes
Top tweeters to be revealed at Shorty Awards
Voting has opened for the second annual Shorty Awards, which aim to recognise the authors of the best 140-character Twitter updates.
Known as the "Twitter Oscars", the awards cover a variety of categories including News, Politics, Science, Journalist, Innovation, Humour, Celebrity and Advertising.
In addition to the 27 official categories, there will also be a number of community-created prizes, including Very Quiet, Green and Awesome.
The awards recognise the nominees' entire body of tweets, rather than just one post and people can nominate their favourite micro-bloggers until February, when five finalists for each category will be selected based on the number of votes and recommendations from the new Real-Time Academy of Short Form Arts & Sciences.
Overall winners will be revealed in March at a ceremony in New York.
