Samantha Morton supporting social work
Samantha Morton spent much of her early life in care
Samantha Morton has joined a host of stars lending their voices in support of social work in a campaign to get more people interested in the profession.
The Help Give Them a Voice scheme was launched by the Department for Children, Schools and Families to combat the stigma attached to the profession following the Baby P case.
Other celebrities to offer their support include Sadie Frost, ex-Eastender Michelle Ryan and musician Goldie, who was helped by social workers himself during his childhood.
Samantha, who until the age of 16 spent most of her time in care, said: "I had some wonderful social workers who supported me and helped me achieve my goals in life.
"That's why it's important to recruit more social workers."
As an adult, Samantha has gone on to pursue a successful acting career, earning two Oscar nominations for roles in Sweet and Lowdown and In America.
The campaign will be backed by a series of TV adverts in which the stars play the role of a child or an adult in need of support.
It comes on the back of a £58 million government investment to help transform the social work profession and make sure all children and vulnerable adults get the help they need.
