Pitt and Jolie donate $6.8m to charity
Hollywood's glamorous couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt donated a combined $6.8 million to good causes in 2008
As one of Hollywood's most glamorous couples, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's relationship often makes headlines. But the pair are also among the film industry's most generous givers, according to new reports.
A tax return obtained by the Hollywood Reporter for the couple's Jolie-Pitt Foundation showed that the movie stars gave a combined $6.8 million (£4.1 million) to charity in 2008.
Organisations that benefited from the philanthropic couple include the Global Health Council, which received $2.1 million, while Human Rights Watch was given $1 million.
Pitt's own Make It Right Foundation, which helps residents of New Orleans rebuild their lives after Hurricane Katrina, received a further $1 million.
The Armed Services YMCA of the US Army further benefited, as did several projects in Cambodia, the country where Jolie adopted son Maddox from.
Established in 2006, the Jolie-Pitt Foundation aims to help humanitarian causes around the world. Earlier this year, the foundation pledged $1 million to aid refugees in Pakistan. As a United Nations goodwill ambassador, 34-year-old Jolie has visited the country several times.
The couple, who met on the set of Mr and Mrs Smith, have six children, including son Maddox adopted from Cambodia, Zahara adopted from Ethiopia, and Pax adopted from Vietnam. Pitt and Jolie also have three biological children – Shiloh, Knox and Vivienne.
