Hollywood to crack down on Twitter
Cameron Diaz is among the stars who could be affected by new restrictions
Many Hollywood actors could soon have a clause in their contract that prevents them from "tweeting" on social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.
According to a blog post on The Hollywood Reporter, a growing number of studios in Tinseltown are cracking down on the use of such sites to limit the leaking of confidential information about productions.
A recent contract from Disney for example reportedly includes a new clause forbidding confidentiality breaches via "interactive media such as Facebook, Twitter, or any other interactive social network or personal blog".
At rival studio DreamWorks, there is a rule banning writers from breaking information from studio press releases via "a social networking site, blog or other internet-type site".
This rule could affect stars such as Cameron Diaz and Mike Myers, who are due to star in the fourth Shrek movie at the studio.
An unnamed talent lawyer told the news provider: "This is just the beginning. Hollywood has a long history of controlling what talent says in the media. This is just a new area of media that hasn’t been controlled yet."
It is believed the move has come after a number of celebrities used social networks to vent their feelings about projects that would otherwise have stayed under wraps.
