Henry scoops theatre award nomination
Lenny Henry has been nominated for his part in Othello
Comedian Lenny Henry's switch to the world of Shakespearean acting has paid off with a nomination in the London Evening Standard Theatre Awards.
The star has been shortlisted for the Milton Shulman Award for Outstanding Newcomer prize by the judging panel for his performance in Othello, which is running at Trafalgar Studios.
Other nominees include Enron - a play based on the fall of the US energy company – which has been put forward for the Best Play, while Rupert Goold and Samuel West have been given nods in the Best Director and Actor categories respectively.
In addition, the likes of Samantha Bond and Oscar-winning actress Rachel Weisz have been put forward for the Natasha Richardson Award for Best Actress, which has been renamed in honour of the late star.
Discussing the move, Evening Standard executive director Evgeny Lebedev said the actress – who died in a skiing accident – was "one of the great stage talents of our age".
The winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Royal Opera House on 23rd November, which is set to be presented by news broadcaster Kirsty Young.

Good old Lenny - so why on earth did he ever agree to doing those awful Travelodge or whatever it was adverts? A serious acting career beckons. Great that people have the courage to do something like this late on in their career and make a success of it
