Cancer play coming to England
Jess Metcalf's play is set to debut in England later this year
A play based on a US man's experience of fighting prostate cancer is set to get its debut on English soil later this year.
Called A Slight Discomfort, the one-man comedy drama was written by Jeff Metcalf, a University of Utah English professor who was diagnosed with the condition a few years ago.
Metcalf, who has won a range of education and writing awards in the past, kept a journal about his experiences with the condition and realised there were some humorous and touching moments that took place during his treatment.
After reading some extracts of his diary at an organised reading in a public library, the Salt Lake Acting Company approached him to develop a play based on his experiences.
Paul Kiernan is now starring in the finished drama, which is also expected to be performed in Finland in the near future, according to KSL.com.
Talking about the show to the website, Mr Metcalf said: "Even in the darkest moments I found light and laughter, whether it was a physical or how one is treated."
